- Inside the Navy reports that Military Sealift Command will charter a ship to carry MRAPs to Iraq from South Africa, the MV Global Patriot, owned by Global Container Lines. This continues the efforts of MSC to get as many MRAPs to Iraq as quickly as possible.
- French warships are carrying supplies to Somalia because of the threat of pirates in the area. The Daily Nation of Kenya reported on the 28th of January that mv Rozen and French Navy frigate mv Commandant Ducuing are participating in the effort.
- Sailors in Japan have been restricted on shore leave because of some misbehavior ashore, but recently the Admiral allowed that only white card Sailors, those new to Japan, have to file a liberty plan. Ships affected are: "USS Kitty Hawk, guided-missile cruisers USS Cowpens and USS Shiloh, and the seven guided-missile destroyers of Destroyer Squadron 15: USS John McCain, USS Curtis Wilbur, USS Lassen, USS Fitzgerald, USS Stethem, USS Mustin and USS McCampbell," the Navy reports.
- The Navy Times reports that the USS Connecticut will transfer to Naval Base Kitsap soon, completing the move of all Seawolf-class subs.
- A source reports that the USS Scout is now near Bahrain.
- Navy ships under construction and not yet commissioned are designated with the letters PCU. The PCU Makin Island (LHD 8) should be delivered to the Navy in November, 2008.
- USS John L. Hall (FFG 32) was engaged in public service activities in Casablanca, Morocco, a few days ago.
